Endodontics

Endodontics is a specialty of dentistry that focuses on diseases of the dental pulp and its supporting structures. Endodontists are dentists who have completed special post-graduate training in this field. Endodontists are also experienced in locating the cause of oral and facial pain that has been difficult to diagnose.

Pain from toothaches is the main reason patients seek treatment. Fortunately, modern anesthetics can make the endodontic procedure pain-free in most cases. Getting treated as early as possible makes the procedure more comfortable, so don’t wait. When caught early, your treatment should feel no different than having a regular filling. For the first few days following your procedure, there may be some sensitivity to biting pressure, especially if there was pain or infection before treatment.

Once endodontic therapy has been completed, you should see Dr. Hart usually every 6 – 12 months to have your tooth examined. Sometimes more frequent evaluation is necessary, especially immediately after the procedure is completed. This allows us to make sure the tooth is healing properly. Since an abscess may take 2 years to heal, we want to be especially vigilant in monitoring the tooth.
